The Cory Band — brass-band royalty
On October 3, 2026, the Cory Band won the National Championship of Great Britain — their 10th National title.
Conducted by Philip Harper on Philip Sparke's A Road Less Travelled By, Cory reclaimed the title and principal cornet Kyle Lawson took the award for best principal cornet of the winning band. Three weeks later, that band and that conductor walk onto the Gray Chapel stage.
Founded in the Rhondda Valley of South Wales in 1884, the Cory Band is one of the most decorated ensembles in the history of brass — ranked the No. 1 brass band in the world for sixteen consecutive years (2007–2022) and a champion at every major contest the art form has to offer.
In a single calendar year, Cory won the European, the British Open, the National, and the Brass in Concert championships — becoming the first band in history ever to hold all four major titles at once.
Under Music Director Philip Harper — a four-time Brass Band Conductor of the Year — Cory has toured the world, premiered landmark works, and set a standard of artistry few ensembles in any genre can match. A performance of this calibre in central Ohio is a genuine rarity.
One night, two bands
The evening opens with the Dublin Silver Band performing its SIDDIS Brass programme — the very music it carries to the international stage in Stavanger, Norway. After a brief reset, Cory Band takes the stage for a show you will be talking about for years.
A landmark hall at the heart of Ohio Wesleyan University, Gray Chapel is one of central Ohio's finest concert venues — home to a magnificent Klais pipe organ and the warm, generous acoustics that brass was made for.
- Accessible entrance and drop-off on the south side of University Hall (accessible parking spaces only; drop off, then park).
- Stair lift to the concert level from the accessible entrance — one person per trip, wheelchair and all, about 7 minutes each — please arrive early, and tell us at checkout so we can plan your arrival with you.
- Balcony seats are stairs only — there is no elevator to the balcony. Accessible seating is on the main floor.
- An accessible restroom is reserved on the main concert level.
- Parking: free street parking on S. Sandusky St. after 5 PM, plus the Campus Center lot off S. Washington St.

The pre-concert dinner is a sit-down meal with the Cory Band, and our caterer needs a final headcount. Dinner reservations close Sunday, October 19, or sooner if the remaining seats are taken. The VIP experience (meet & greet and reception) can be added to any seat at any time, right up to concert night.
VIP guests, note the time: doors open for you at 6:30 PM for the meet & greet with Philip Harper on the Gray Chapel stage, half an hour before general admission at 7:00 PM. The concert begins at 7:30 PM.
